Helena Pre-Severance

ok so i'm rewatching through for the first time, and obviously, in s1e2, Helena gets the chip implanted, but when she's walking with Milchick before the procedure, she's not acting like Helena. at this point she would've been Helena, right? because it sees like she was already acting like Helly which doesn't make sense to me. can someone maybe explain? does this make sense or am i crazy?
