Trying Lamictal again
In 2018, Lamictal was added to some other meds (I can’t remember which) during an inpatient stay, but it didn’t work. Now, I’m in another depressive episode having tried nearly every medication besides TCAs or MAOIs, which my (new) doctor won’t prescribe. She has prescribed Amitriptyline and Lamictal and said that, even though it didn’t work before, it is possible it could as part of a different combination than I hadn’t tried before. She believes I’m Bipolar II because my last three major depressive episodes kicked off four years after the previous episode resolved. I had a couple of months in 2023 that may have been hypo manic as I was noticeably above my baseline but thought that might have just a reaction to external events as well as my usual cycle of creativity. My question is whether or not a medication of this type that failed before could work if tried later.
