Watched V/H/S Halloween for the first time, here’s my review on it…

User Review

Diet Phantasma: This was probably the most boring and repetitive vhs wraparound ever, it feels like a copy cat of the one where they did experiments on the alien in the previous entry.

Coochie Coochie Coo: I enjoyed this one, it had the proper amount of disturbing vibes to it that I most enjoy with VHS shorts, some parts gave me chills ngl lol. Plus you can almost picture something like that happening to you if you’ve done haunted houses before.

Ut Supra Sic Infra: I was genuinely shocked to learn that people didn’t like this one at all, for me this was a top 15 if not top 10 segment of all time in the VHS franchise. It had interesting lore, build up, and I like how they reconstructed what happened in the original case. It almost felt like I was watching a real crime documentary at first lol. I’d be interested in hearing why people disliked it.

Fun size: Jesus, this was genuinely the worst segment in VHS history and quite frankly it isn’t even close, people talk shit on Dante the great, Bonestorm, Phase 1 clinical trials, etc. But this one was so bad in comparison it looked like Michael Carpenter directed the other ones. I mean from the shitty dialogue of hearing things like “Tradwife”, the guy spamming the word “Fiancé” ten million times, the meta references, and the all time add horrific acting plus the corny goofy looking antagonists, it almost ruined the whole movie for me, I cringed up so bad I was praying for it to be over. Don’t get me started on the flying bucket.

Kidprint: I actually did think up until the ending this was one of the scariest segments in the franchises history as well. The scariest segments for me are the ones you could really picture happening in real life. The antagonist was so sick and twisted that I was waiting for him to get his commupence and then the ending brought the entire thing down. It didn’t make sense they thought the store owner was responsible nor that the kids thought he was in on it when the Bruce guy literally attacked him, and how would the police believe that he did it when he was the one who was killed with the kids still missing, and the guy walking away free is what brought it down for me personally.

Home Haunt: I really enjoyed this one, it was super fun and scary as well and much like Ut Supra Sic Infra, I thought this was another all timer, the thought of Halloween props coming to life in a haunt was super creative, and as someone who likes gore this segment did justice for that.

Overall: I’d give it about a 7/10, I definitely think the writers need to stop making the segments too goofy instead of them being serious and terrifying. They used to have a balance but I fear it’s shifted alittle too much, but despite that I was still entertained with this installment of the franchise for sure.
