Was I fired or did I quit? Wondering for EI.
Hey all. Lost my job recently because I wanted to take 4 days off for some training I did. Ideally I would like to go on EI while I look for something new, so I want to figure out whether I was fired or whether I quit, in the eyes of the law.
- About 2 weeks before the training, I asked my boss whether I could have those days off. He told me he would think about it.
- My other boss then comes to me and says I can take those days off, but if I did, I wouldn't have a job afterwards. I had already paid $1k for my training so I told him I was not able to work those days, he said my last day would be the Monday before the first day I wanted off.
- After that my boss who I initially asked actually comes up to me and gives me the green light to take those days off. I guess they hadn't communicated lol and I just told him I had heard otherwise from the other owner.
My ROE showed up on the ServiceCanada website today and it says that I quit. Just want to know what your guys' interpretations of this situation would be. Seems pretty grey area. I realize the answer is probably to just apply and see what they say, but I want to have a rough idea going into this.
As far as hours worked and everything else go I would qualify. Training was unrelated to the job, just to be clear.
Thanks everyone :)
