How to travel from Long Beach to Universal Studios? Best places to eat along the way?

Arriving Saturday and was hoping to go Sunday to Universal Studios.

Should I rent a car? Should I take public transport? Uber? Also should I bring lunch to Universal Studios or buy inside? As I'm commuting a long distance, I'm a huge fan of Asian food was wondering if there's anything worth stopping by for along the way home for dinner?
