Of course, details on the new Mummy film are vague beyond the directors, screenwriter, Brendan and Rachel, and Dragon Emperor being ignored. So it’s tbd if Arnold/Imhotep is going to come back - plus, as much I love Imhotep, his self-imposed ending in Returns felt pretty definitive.

Meanwhile, Patricia Velasquez has essentially never stopped being enthusiastic about her time in the series as Anck-su-namun (and Meela), between posting about it on her socials often, being active in the convention circuit, and being popular on Cameo.

Yesterday, I remembered how the animated series made Anck-su-namun more of a main villain for some episodes. I think she was even at odds with Imhotep on occasion (probably inspired by their famous split at the end of Returns). In the actual film series, I’d say Anck’s end was hardly as content and accepting as Imhotep’s, as she fled away in selfish cowardice to save herself, only to fall into a pit of scorpions. Surely she’d still be bitter about all that in the underworld.

Anck’s original body got cut to pieces in the first film, and Meela’s body is probably pretty far gone between the scorpions and the collapse of the golden pyramid in the second film, so I’m not sure what vessel she could return in.

Buuuuut, if we hypothetically can’t get Imhotep, what if the film took a page from the animated series and gave Anck her moment in the villainous supernaturally powered mummy spotlight?

What if Anck-su-namun becomes the main villain?
