Working 25th December - Nightshift

Been told our shop is having a nightshift on the 25th December, it’s my contracted day but saw on the working arrangements for this year that if a nightshift is approved by the regional director, it’ll be optional. Where do I stand on this or does anyone have any information/in the same boat?
