We recently had an interesting and concerning interview experience
We recently hired a full-stack developer who performed really well in the interview - strong technical answers, confident communication, and a resume that looked solid. On paper, he seemed like a perfect fit.
There were a few red flags early on - a newly created LinkedIn profile, a very common Filipino name, and no online footprint whatsoever. He also mentioned being based in the Philippines, but interestingly, he didn’t look or sound Filipino at all, even his accent didn’t match. Still, since he aced the interview, I shrugged it off and decided to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Then things got strange.
During one of our standup calls, while he was sharing his screen, we noticed an AI transcription/assistant tool actively running. Take note that this is on the STANDUP call. It appeared to be recording our questions and suggesting responses - and what really stood out was that he was reading and repeating the exact AI-generated answers showing on his screen.
That’s when everything started to click.
I was shocked af - di ko maimagine na naloko kami. Do you guys have any similar experiences?
It might actually be more common now - I noticed a few other applicants on our list who seemed a bit suspicious too.
