Claiming my identity as ‘A shaman’
I really struggle with the word shaman, and always have done. It wasn’t until about 4 years after an initial awakening when I learnt my life would be spiritual in nature, that I accepted it was a shamanic path that I was walking. That was when I found a mentor and began initiations of sort but more importantly, a personal commitment to myself and the path that was unfolding. I understand that shamans are chosen by the spirits, undergo initiation and training with a mentor and are chosen by community. They also do not refer to themselves as ‘A shaman’ however I really feel it’s an important step for myself, in claiming my identity. To use this label for myself brings shame and imposter syndrome, despite it being the most clarifying truth of myself and my life experiences. The line between humility and self acceptance is difficult, and I wonder if anyone else feels this way? The community no longer exists in the ways it once did, I feel I have to keep telling myself I am a shaman or I will keep tiptoeing around the edges and avoiding truly stepping into and embodying that. Perhaps I need to start my apprenticeship to reach that stage. Anyway, I’m curious on other people’s thoughts
