what was service on the Maginot Line like during the Phoney War?

This whole front was famous a big stalemate where neither side made any real effort to confront the other, but for a French soldier stationed at the line what was the day-to-day experience like? How serious did they treat the threat of a German offensive and how close were they to German forces at any point?
