Why is skinny shaming so normalized?
I am genuinely struggling to understand why body shaming directed at skinnier girls is so universally ignored. All my life, I've had to listen to comments about how "skeletal" I look, or that I need to "eat a burger," as if pointing out my weight is helpful or funny. It was a constant, painful reminder that my body was not seen as "normal".
I want people to know that for me, these comments have been deeply damaging. They fueled my body dysmorphia and led me down a dark path where I developed unhealthy habits because I became obsessed with gaining weight just to stop the remarks.
We need to be clear: Body shaming is body shaming, no matter the size of the person you're criticizing. Please, just stop commenting on people's bodies.
