No, research shows that belief in conspiracy theories is negatively associated with critical thinking skills. While some conspiracy theorists see themselves as critical thinkers who question authority, studies indicate their thinking is often less based on evidence and logical analysis and more on intuition, unsubstantiated claims, and confirmation bias.

Lack of critical thinking

* **Intuitive thinking:** Conspiracy theorists rely more on intuitive reasoning rather than analytical thought.
* **Poor evidence assessment:** They often rely on low-quality evidence and fail to refute their claims with high-quality, contradictory evidence.
* **Confirmation bias:** They may seek out information that confirms their beliefs while ignoring contradictory evidence.
* **Self-deception:** Some research suggests conspiracy believers often believe they are critical thinkers when they are not, possibly due to an inability to self-regulate their own thinking.

The perception of critical thinking

* **Conspiracy theorists' view:** Many conspiracy theorists believe they are critical thinkers who are simply seeing through the "official story" and identifying inconsistencies that others miss.
* **Ironically:** This perspective is viewed as ironic by skeptics because the arguments and reasoning used in conspiracy theories often violate the standards of critical thinking.
* **Counterarguments:** Some studies have found that improving critical thinking skills can make people more skeptical of conspiracy theories and better able to distinguish between plausible and implausible ones, according to [Phys.org](https://phys.org/news/2025-02-critical-skills-effective-discerning-truth.html).

I think conspiracy theories are a waste of time and cause mental anguish. Read a good Dan Brown novel.
