Advice requested for daily skin care routine
Hello, sometime lurker first time poster. I'm 54 and not super vain but things have started to break down over the past few years and my former routine of gentle cleanser and Olay doesn't seem to be cutting it any more. I can't afford procedures like fillers or Botox etc. I'm looking for something I can add to my daily routine to either improve my skin or just stave off decomposition.
My issues are:
-
Marionette lines (pretty new and not too deep yet)
-
Fine lines above my upper lip
-
Large pores and redness (these get covered by a lightweight foundation so I'm not too hung up on it but they aren't ideal)
-
Fordyce spots all around the edges of my lips. I REALLY HATE THESE. I've had them my whole life but as my lips shrink they become more obvious. My dermatologist said to leave them alone and no one else can see them but I think everyone can see them and even if they can't, I can see them and I hate them.
I've never needed any special skin care stuff (sunblock/sun protection + good genetics when it comes to wrinkles) and now I am at a total loss as to how to proceed.
I do have a dermatologist but she isn't helpful with DIY stuff like creams and unguents. She says it's all pretty useless and that if I want to move forward I should get prescriptions or procedures from her.
I tried the ordinary glycolic acid toner but the next day my skin was flaking off.
I also tried prescription retin-a micro but it made me look like a burn victim. My skin fell off and my face was red and scaly for a month until I gave up. It was so painful.
Please share your wisdom with me as I enter my hag era.
