Medication
Hi everyone,
I’m 19 and was diagnosed with ADHD (along with depression, anxiety, ODD, and RSD) when I was 15.
I’ve been on Vyvanse since my diagnosis, and I take Lexapro (previously Fluoxetine) for mood. Vyvanse works really well for me in most ways, focus, motivation, etc but I still really struggle with emotional regulation, especially anger. Whenever I feel sad, hurt, disappointed, tired, or overstimulated, it all comes out as anger. RSD honestly feels unbearable at times, and I just wish I could react like a normal person.
It’s made friendships, especially with other girls my age, really difficult because I get confused and overwhelmed so easily. I’ve worked really hard to manage it and have made some progress, but it still massively affects my relationships with my family and my boyfriend. I feel like such a mean person sometimes, even though I know I’m not trying to be.
I’m hoping someone out there can relate and maybe share if any medications have helped with emotional regulation or anger. I’ve done therapy, grounding techniques, and try to remove myself from triggering situations, but it’s getting really hard, and the people I care about are the ones who end up hurt.
I see my psychiatrist twice a year (coming up soon), and I’d love to go in with some ideas to discuss. He’s great, but he doesn’t have a lot of experience with girls who have ADHD and anger/RSD issues. So if anyone can share what’s worked for them especially meds that helped “take the edge off” emotionally — I’d really appreciate it.
