I need advice

Honestly, things have been really tough. My wife (she’s 39, I’m 41) and I were separated for almost two years after I found out she had an affair. After a lot of talking and trying to work things out, we decided to give it another shot. At first it was okay, but now it feels like we’re slipping back into the same old patterns.

Since we split, I took a job that has me traveling a lot. At first, she didn’t seem to mind, but lately it’s become a big issue. I’ve never given her a reason to doubt me, but she keeps imagining situations where I’m cheating or hiding something, and that’s just not happening. It’s wearing me down — I can only be questioned so many times before it starts to take a toll.

While we were apart, I became close friends with a woman who ended up being one of my best friends. Recently, my wife asked me to cut off that friendship, and I did — but I really didn’t want to. I miss having that connection.

I still think we could be happy, but it feels like she’s not happy with herself, and that’s affecting everything. I’m not sure if I’m even happy anymore. I feel like I’m constantly trying to reassure her about everything, and it’s exhausting. I honestly don’t know what to do at this point.
