(Un)populair opinion bout sailing
So mods are immediately removing my post for obvious reasons. That’s not ok, you guys don’t own Reddit, this is a free space.
Don’t get me wrong but all the content sailing brings looks awesome: islands, quests, new resources, ship combat to fight a giant group boss where you might need cannons, range, mage together and even melee somehow to bring it down. The new resources, new fishing, smithing methods etc etc… like why would anybody be against that, it’s brilliant.
However, the way you train it and it being a skill feels so extremely disconnected. seriously: ship racing? makes me wanna laugh and cry.
Shipwreck Salvaging might be cool as a little resource gathering or treasure trail kind of activity if they would have made it more like an actual treasure hunt that gives u useful resources or unique shit. Or would’ve tied it into clue scrolls.
But who decided to turn this into a skill? It’s clear the players wanted everything else but it being a skill on its own. We wanted the content and we compromised because they forced it on us as a skill. That one video I saw about warding was better and made more sense as a skill than any way you train sailing imo. And that’s just as an example, I’m not saying that’s what I want, I’m just saying as a skill, conceptually it clicked for me.
Solution: remove all the skilling around sailing and tie it into other skills and activitiesas it should have been: construction, smithing, fishing, combat, clue scrolls.
Sorry but they didn’t keep it simple and got out of focus and totally went of track with this one. What the actual fuck.
