Is it possible to get a repossession removed from my credit report?
TLDR: Is it possible to get a car repossession removed from my credit report? The account has been paid off about 1.5 years, and this happened about 2 years ago. I added a few details below for additional context.
A bit more information that may/may not be relevant:
We had an auto loan through Toyota, which has been paid off for about 1.5 years (the loan was over a 5 year period). We had automatic payments, but the payment portal was updated, and the automatic payments stopped. This results in the car being repossessed after 60 days late payments.
We didn't receive a letter and/or notification of the delinquency until the car was already repossessed, so we didn't even realize until the car went missing. We discovered the repossession after talking to the police as we thought the car was stolen. We made the account current immediately and picked up the car within a day of discovering the repossession, but Toyota refused to remove the mark from our credit report.
Since this was a couple years ago, I am wondering if the repossession can get removed from my credit report. I've heard of people making disputes, which some were successful and some were not, but I don't know what I would be disputing. For example, the car was actually repossessed even though I feel this wasn't fair because the error was on their part and they failed to notify us I a timely manner. No phone call. No email.
So, is there anything I can do about the mark on my credit report? I have a lot of high interest student loans, and this is making is very difficult to refinance.
