Question for potential exchange students: Have you tried hosting first?

Just out of curiosity, for potential exchange students: Have your families tried hosting first, before sending you into the unknown?

This experience can be very helpful, as it gives you a better sense of what to expect from your host families and what they expect from you.

Or, if you were an exchange student as a child, now in adulthood, do you wish to host ? And why?
