Should I leave my $100K role for a $75K position?
I’m currently in a fully remote cloud role making around $100K, but my manager recently added a long list of new goals: complete a Google Workspace cert, 80 hours of LinkedIn Learning (PowerShell + soft skills), write a script, 6–15 migration improvements, and 10–25 provisioning tickets — all in addition to managing 3–10 migration projects at once. Next year, I’ll also have to handle undocumented cloud engineering tasks with a software they are using, in addition to the migrations.
I got an offer for a new position paying $75K that’s remote (though the office is close by, which worries me if it will stay remote). It focuses on PKI, certificate authority, VMware, and automation for GovCloud, more security-related work, but it’s tied to federal contracts, and I’ve seen reviews about layoffs when contracts end. It seems more technically focused but also less stable.
Would you take the lower-paying role that might offer less stress and different experience, or stay in the current higher-paying cloud job that’s piling on unrealistic goals? I’m torn between burnout risk and job security concerns.
