30 Days. 30 Ideas (Day 6) The 80/20 Principle
I used to think progress came from doing more. Over time, I realized growth doesn’t come from doing more. It comes from doing a few things consistently and letting the compounding effect do its quiet work.
Real progress doesn’t announce itself. It builds in silence. It hides in the days you show up even when no one’s watching, in the habits that feel small but shift everything beneath the surface.
That’s when the 80/20 Rule really clicked for me. The idea that most of your results come from just a small part of what you do.
In my writing journey, that 20% wasn’t the big bursts of inspiration or the late-night rewriting marathons. It was the quiet, consistent habits. Showing up to write even on bad days, studying feedback instead of chasing perfection, and hitting publish when it felt uncomfortable.
Those few actions did more for my growth than all the extra effort I used to pour in.
They’re what took me from staring at blank pages to actually building a career around my words.
The takeaway:
Not everything you do has an equal impact. Most things just keep you busy. But a small few truly move you forward. The secret isn’t doing it all. It’s doing the few things that actually matter, really well.
