High DNA Fragmentation
We finally maybe have an answer to all of our issues. To sum everything up, we took 3 years to conceive our first baby after finding out I have Graves’ disease which made my TSH basically none existent. Once my hormones were balanced we conceived quickly only to find out our baby has T21. We terminated at 19+5 wks. We quickly conceived our second baby only to find out he had T18. We terminated at 16+2wks. Our genetic counsellor kept telling us it was a fluke both times but 2 for 2 doesn’t seem like a fluke so we started working with a fertility clinic. Our experience hasn’t been ideal with our fertility clinic primarily because of our dr. The primary issue is that he has a really thick Italian accent and I just can’t understand him so I always feel confused by whats happening and what next steps are. For example, he didn’t mention me having to get a saline sonogram at all before ordering one for me. Another issue is we don’t have issues getting pregnant only issues with having chromasomally normal babies, so I feel like we shouldn’t have the same protocols as people who had never conceived or who have recurrent miscarriages. That is not our experience and I want our protocols to be personalized for us and our issues.
This week we finally got the results from our diagnostic cycle and i was told everything for me was perfect except for my left ovary wasn’t producing as many follicles as my right (I guess it only had 5 to my right ovaries 12 follicles) and my AMH was a little low but he didn’t seem too concerned about it. I don’t know, again I’m still very confused about everything. The issue seems to be my husbands DNA fragmentation which came back like 96% fragmented DNA. Obviously really really bad. The Dr. Said he would prescribe some antioxidants and we would touch base on 3-months. This is really frustrating because I feel like we’ve waited so long to be parents already. We finally got this prescription for antioxidants (which took 4 days to get) only to find out after going to 2 different pharmacies that it isn’t available commercially! Like I can’t get it at a pharmacy at all! This is all soo frustrating because like if we have to wait 3 months while he takes these I want to start like last week and we waited 4 days for the prescription only for us to be able to buy them over Amazon! Also after doing research I heard about varicocele and with such high fragmentation I assumed they should check for that but it wasn’t even mentioned?! Like I just feel like we are not a priority at all and that they are just trying to push us toward IVF to get our money!
Needless to say, I’ve asked for another Dr. at the clinic and we’ll see how it goes from there.
