Considering Starting an Independent Survey Bussiness

I'm a civil engineer and I'm deeply considering starting my own survey business or something independent in the lines of civil engineering.

What are the requirements to be an independent surveyor?

Are there other independent jobs in the realm of construction that someone with a bachelors in civil and construction engineering may be able to take on? What sorts of certifications or licensure will I need?

I do not yet have my PE, though I'm about ready to take the exam. I'm close to having the necessary experience too.
