How long for infection pain to go away after wisdom tooth extraction?

I had to have my upper wisdom tooth removed due to an infection. Now that I'm back home I'm trying to sleep since I feel shitty but the pain is worse than how I felt with just the infection. The dentist cleaned up the infection and said that pain would be gone soon.
