would you agree that religion can make people functionally illiterate

i have nothing against religious people but often found myself in conversations where it felt like i could say one thing and it would be taken completely out of context. it’s like all nuance goes out the window. i could highlight the fact that fundamentalist religion is harmful and all of a sudden im against christianity and need to open the bible and seek truth before i speak. i used to get offended when stuff like this would happen but eventually i started coming to the conclusion that religion and the dogmatic beliefs you’re indoctrinating into accepting can make you functionally illiterate. its like you’re conditioned to see things as black and white, evil and good, heaven and hell.
