Why do people hate PvP?

I'll be honest, I didn't look much into this game before the test on the 20th. I was treating it was another PvPvE game like Tarkov or any other extraction shooter. Honestly, it's no different than any other extraction shooter. You collect loot to progress your character so you can PvP without fear of dying. Yet every video I see, every post I see, every thing I see mentioned about the game is people angry that people shoot at you instead of just fighting bots and questing together. Am I missing something? If extraction games didn't have PvP I wouldn't play them, that's literally the fun part.
