Lone Fungus: Melody of Spores (and its similarities to Silksong)
This post mostly has its origin in the urge to talk about Lone Fungus: Melody of Spores. I haven’t played the first game yet, so it took me by surprise how well made Lone Fungus Melody is. So far, it feels like the hole package with tight movement, fun combat/bosses, platforming challenges without frustration and plenty of exploration. I guess, many of you have either played it already or are going to. If not, I recommend checking it out.
A specific topic I have been wondering about, are some gameplay elements which share a surprising similarity to Silksong, most notably the diagonal downward dash and the ‚dream sequences‘ when you acquire a new movement ability. The former is an integral component of combat and mostly works as a shield breaker and damage buff, so it’s different enough from Silksong‘s diagonal dash. Also, it’s hard to imagine that this could have been implemented in the two months since Silksong‘s release. I have to assume, it’s just a coincidence.
The ‚dream sequences‘ on the other hand feel like they could have been implemented as a nod in Silksong‘s direction.
The only person who can actually answer this is the dev u/professorbasti , and it would be cool, if he wanted to share some insight into the potential influence of Silksong or other games (Celeste comes to mind) on Lone Fungus Melody. But I would like to hear about everyone‘s thoughts on the game in general.
