Family Matching Outfits, Cute or Cringe?

Okay, serious question, are family matching outfits cute or just straight-up cringe? My partner wants to do coordinated outfits for our family holiday photos, but I’m worried we’ll look like an Instagram ad. I’ve seen some sets on PatPat and a few other sites that are actually pretty cute, but I’m still on the fence.
Has anyone here actually done matching outfits for pictures or holidays? How did it turn out?
