Thoughts on craving (Day 17)

It's funny how in our minds we compartmentalise the cravings that come with a particular addiction as distinct from 'craving' generally. What I've learnt from my latest quitting attempt is that irrespective of origin the experience of craving doesn't vary all that much. My body only has one toolkit to encourage behaviour. Whether it's weed, porn, video games or scrolling makes no difference. The intensity may change but, at it's core, craving is craving.

Why does this matter? Because a happy, peaceful life is dependent on our ability to navigate craving and live deliberately and mindfully. Which means that everybody who has succeeded in removing weed from their lives despite craving has undergone a crash course in managing it. Which is like unlocking a superpower for life.

When I think about it, one of the biggest things weed took from me was patience. Living at the mercy of craving means being a prisoner in a very real sense. In a way I'm grateful for my struggles with weed, as they've helped me understand this.

Keep it up everybody!
