As the US has a lot of food waste/surplus food, why can't people on SNAP be given food to the value of x instead of actual money. The food would be the basic 'supplementary nutrition' pasta, rice, tinned food, cooking oil etc which can easily sustain a family.

I live in Middle East and we can pay for meal boxes for families who are struggling. They contain food items, or the more expensive ones may also contain toiletries, washing powder etc.

It seems that a lot of people in the US are buying goods, services which are not essential or even nutritional.

Care boxes could be issued at the start of the month.

This isn't a case that people receiving SNAP should be given left over food or food destined for landfill etc. Actual essentials to feed a family.
