Heard a beautiful violin while half-asleep — felt like sliding into another space. What could this be?

Hey everyone, Something really strange happened last night, and I’d love to understand the neurological side of it — or just hear if anyone’s had something similar.

I was somewhere between wakefulness and sleep. My mind was fully awake, but my body felt like it was being pulled or sliding sideways — not falling, more like passing through something. Around me it felt dark, but I had this sense that there were shapes or things in the space — like I just couldn’t see them because of the darkness.

Then I started hearing this incredibly beautiful violin melody. It wasn’t just random notes — it was vivid, emotional, and felt like a real piece of music I’d never heard before. I listened for what felt like hours, but when I woke up, I realized it must’ve lasted only a few minutes.

Eventually, the feeling got too intense, and I had to force myself awake — I literally fought to open my eyes. It wasn’t a typical sleep paralysis (no chest pressure or panic). It was more like curiosity mixed with confusion and a hint of fear.

I’m genuinely curious — what could cause something like this? A hypnagogic hallucination, some REM overlap, or something else entirely?
