Just Diagnosed for about 3 months

Success story

So, I’m marking this as a success story just because I need a win 😭. Basically, I got my PCOS diagnosis about 3 months ago and my doctor got me on hormones.

Before my periods were wild and untamed, I wouldn’t have one for months and I even went without for an entire year in my 20s. I had no clue what was wrong and I didn’t want to self diagnose. All the doctors I went too quickly assumed that my weight was the reason for my problems and just told me that with proper diet my period would come back. Yeah, they even noticed the hair growing from my chin and noted ‘male pattern hair growth’ as something they discussed with me in the doctors notes but they never actually mentioned anything to me. I felt like my body had some kind of weird hormone imbalance but I kept getting told that messing with hormones was a bad idea.

Finally I went to my doctors this year and she scheduled an ultrasound and I was diagnosed. I’m 31, and after years of feeling like I wasn’t being heard I finally got on hormones and a couple weeks after being on hormones I got my period and it’s been monthly for the past 3 months! It’s been very validating to get what my body needs, and sure my story isn’t perfect and there’s other things that I’m dealing with like trauma I didn’t realize I had but it’s a victory nonetheless!
