This story is supposed to take place in Ohio?

I am obsessed with this show but one thing that bothers me is why this is how this is supposed to take place in Ohio. I’m not an expert, but I have visited Ohio three times (including Dayton) and it just does not look anything like the any of the places in the show. Also the urban scenes clearly give it away that it’s NYC. Especially at the beginning of episode 5 when they’re getting into the car, or when they have the overhead view in Mikes car driving through the city. There is so much space in every city in Ohio (and the rest of the Midwest) which is the opposite of NY where you don’t have an inch of non-usable space between buildings/houses because everything is so expensive. I looked it up and production was done on a soundstage in Brooklyn for the house and office so it makes sense they’d use secondary shots around NYC, but why not just say the story takes place in NY?
