My gf could face deportation?

Hi I have a long distance relationship with a girl from Venezuela that lives in Malta. She has a stable job but she is in the process of renovating her work permit that expires in mid December. She's really scared of being deported if the burocracy takes too long. Is it a fair concern? Can we avoid this scenario?
