Oh dear god, I picked it up without knowing what it was about, thought that it was just some book about the pets returning from the dead and annoying their owners or terrorizing the town. Couldn't have been farther from the truth. (In my defence, the images on google even have children with animal masks on their faces)

This book is dread in its pure form, it doesn't spare you and crushes your heart in every way that it can. It is not a horror book, it doesn't scare you, but it pulls the strings of your heart, tests how long you can go knowing what's coming but still unprepared to face it.

King tells you what's coming, the eerie feeling on the stairs, the wind. And bang, it hits you. Turns out, you were unprepared for it even while you knew what was coming.
I knew what was happening and still my heart was beating out of the chest in "Oz the gweat and tewwible"

The characters are so well written, so human, so you connect with them instantly. I came to love Ellie, sympathise with Rachel and got frustrated with Louis when he acted daftly, Jud the lovely old man and Norma I grew to love them, even Church.

The world building is beautiful, it sets the atmosphere and supports the story wholeheartedly. If the book is scary (in a sense of horror), it is scary on account of its world and the atmosphere that it has.

I can't say enough about the story, 80% of the book is just the buildup, but that buildup doesn't feel like a buildup, it feels as if you are living the life of the characters, there is no dry spell, nowhere I felt bored or felt that the book was slow or that things should speed up. It is like a movie in a book form, A movie that you can just keep watching no matter the length. And the end? The end hit me hard, I am still shaking while writing this review.

I hope there is another book with Ellie, destroying or at-least having a chance at revenge against the cemetery, exploring the wendigo in depth, what kind of evil it is and the power that it holds (some frigging cross-country powers it has), what was the power that sent poxcow to louis and what made Ellie have prophetic dreams. I want it all, haha.

Looking forward to reading more from Stephen King.

I though this was a book about pets, couldn't have been more wrong. Loved every page.
