Can sublimation go both ways?

When learning about gender dysphoria and its relationship to a feminization kink, I read an article on how a person's gender dysphoria can be sublimated into a kink, as the author claims it is safer/more socially acceptable to have a kink than to be openly transgender. Upon reading a little bit about sublimation, it seems that the definition says that aggressive or sexual behavior is changed into different less harmful outlets, but this article says a non sexual but potentially harmful (in that trans people live harder lives and aren't accepted) behavior is sublimated into a kink/sexual behavior. Is this how sublimation works and does this theory seem valid? I dont mean to be transphobic or anything im genuinely curious about the relationship and how it works.
