Westerners have been ruining animals for centuries, from pigeons to cats and more

European pigeons were not domesticated for their own good; they were enslaved for the purposes of humans, primarily as messengers, carrying letters over long distances. For centuries, their very lives and abilities were shaped around a single utility, speed, reliability, homing instinct, so that humans could profit or communicate. Once alternative messaging methods were invented, these same pigeons were discarded without care, left to scavenge in cities and towns. Today, they roam in groups around human vicinities, hoping for crumbs because that is all they remember to survive on. They can barely even build nests of their own. Their natural independence, resilience, and instincts were systematically stripped away. This is an undeniable evil: a species modified and exploited, then abandoned when it was no longer convenient. Pigeons are a clear example of what happens when humans cripple a species for their convenience, reducing them to perpetual dependence and stripping them of the very skills that once made them thrive.

There is a long, troubling pattern in western behavior: the tendency to infantilize any animal they regard as a pet, across every domesticated species. This runs from pigeons to cats to countless others, forcing them into dependency, weakening their instincts, and shaping their lives around whims rather than their own natural abilities. Certain Western cat advocates are a modern reflection of this mindset. They insist on keeping cats strictly indoors, label them “invasive species,” complain about the life expectancy of outdoor cats, and chastise owners who allow natural outdoor access. All of this, framed as moral or ecological concern, denies cats the life they were born to live, strips them of hunting skills, territorial instincts, and independence, and makes them reliant on humans who are ultimately unreliable.

Imagine being created by nature for your own purpose, only for another species to decide you are inherently problematic and must be confined for life just because they want to take advantage of you. Centuries from now, if these advocates tire of cats as they did with pigeons, cats could be cast aside, forgotten, and their natural identity erased. The historical exploitation of pigeons is a reminder of guilt, when westerners control and modify a species, they are not guardians but controllers and exploiters. The cruelty is systemic and moral, erasing autonomy, instincts, and identity for convenience or control.

This evil should not only be acknowledged but spoken about loudly. No living creature should be artificially molded into dependence on humans, because humans are self-serving, transient, and unreliable. Every species has a right to its instincts, independence, and natural life. The pigeons of Europe, the cats of today, and every domesticated animal caught in this pattern are evidence of a persistent human arrogance. You wouldn't care about cats being an "invasive species" if they no longer served your needs. You wouldn't care about their life span either. Nobody gives af about pigeons.
