Is Pubalgia the new version of 'ACL' replacing cruciate ligaments?

With all of the news coming out around about Pubalgia in stars like Lamine Yamal (among others), it really feels like the term 'pubalgia' has replaced the much more common term 'sports hernia', from what I know as someone with a minimal understanding of sports science. From doing some research:

In addition to Yamal, his Barcelona teammate Eric García has also dealt with nagging issues with pubalgia. Still in Spain, Germany's midfield maestro Toni Kroos suffered a similar setback, as have soccer legends Kaká, Sergio Busquets, and Xabi Alonso, all of whom are reported to have encountered bouts with the injury at points during their careers.

Yet, I just cannot remember for the life of me this injury being referred to as Pubalgia (correct me if I am wrong).

In the same way that the Americanisation of football has led to the term 'doing his cruciate ligaments' (and all other variations of this) seemingly fading from existence, is Pubalgia going to do the same for this term? I recognise it's not due to an American influence, but surely there has to be a reason why it's being called this instead of just a 'sports hernia'. Been bugging me all week, so maybe this community can help.
