Bat Exposure
My husband and I have a toddler, a dog, and I’m pregnant (29 weeks) with our second. We were all downstairs when my husband found a bat upstairs and watched it fly between bedrooms. This was about an hour after me, our son, and our dog all got up from a nap. None of us have any bite marks. I have a scratch on my arm that could be from anything. I truly don’t know if we were exposed to the bat or not, but I’m unnerved. It’s actually still in our house because animal control is taking forever to get back to me. We slept somewhere else last night. My OB cleared me to get the rabies shots from a pregnancy perspective but didn’t know if I needed it or not from an exposure perspective. My PCP said we don’t need them. My son’s pediatrician said we didn’t need to go to the ER last night but to bring him in for an office visit today. I’m freaking out about not getting the vaccine because the consequences seem to bad if that was the wrong call. Would you go to the ER in my shoes and get a second opinion? Call my doctor back and ask if they will give me the vaccine anyway? Or does this seem normal that my doctor said I don’t need it?
