Why don't we just ban dogs?
After the amount of talk of banning fireworks (which happens every year) because they scare animals and such - namely dogs - I came to the thought.. If we're going to start banning anything that has any sort of problem attached to it, why stop there?
Which kills more people and poses more of an issue/threat to humans?
Dogs in 2023 killed 16, however Firework related deaths are so rare there's not even any recorded for 2023.
So.. dogs kill more people, with the addition that thousands are injured by dogs a year compared to about.. 30 a year with fireworks?
I personally don't agree with the path of banning pretty much anything that isn't absolutely 100% convenient to everyone and have both enjoyed dog ownership and fireworks, but putting my opinion to one side and adopting the ban-friendly thought process many who advocate banning fireworks - how can they not have the same view of banning dogs?..
Doesn't have to even be a sudden cull, could be a phase out, mandatory spaying etc.
They scare a lot of people, injure a thousands of people a year, and kill more than one person a month on average - often children.
Now, I am not a fan of banning things so hastily, it's quite authoritarian and brash. I don't even believe in banning dogs, but neither do I believe in banning fireworks.
However, many are clearly increasingly in favour of banning Fireworks because of the issues that take place for a few weeks-month. Dogs however, cause problems every single day of the year. Every day someone is bit, or a dog scares wildlife etc.
So, dog-owning Firework ban supporters, playing devils advocate here and hoping to expand the discussion on this topic:-
Why shouldn't we ban dogs?
