Downgrade from home theater to Apple HomePods
Hi,
maybe a weird question, but I’d love to hear from people who actually tried this in real life.
My current setup: • Yamaha RX-A810 AVR • KEF iQ5 towers • Paradigm SB-90 sub • a large decent center (not a tiny soundbar speaker)
Big living room, everything still works great.
I’m going deeper into the Apple ecosystem and I keep thinking about this: does it even make sense to sell all this and go with 2× HomePod 2 (stereo pair) for both music and movies?
What I care about: • music quality (Apple Music) • Apple TV 4K movies • the least amount of cables + clean look (aesthetics)
I don’t really care about 5.1 / 7.1 “home theater correctness”. For me it’s more “looks good, easy to use”.
Questions: • has anyone actually downsized from a classic AVR + tower speakers to just 2× HomePod 2 and did NOT regret it? • can 2× HomePod 2 in a big room deliver at least like 70–80% of the physicality/body that a proper amp + towers + sub give? • for movies… how are dialog intelligibility and big action scenes, without a real sub? • is this basically an upgrade in convenience, but a downgrade in sound quality?
I don’t want to get blinded by Apple fairy dust and then regret selling proper gear.
Thanks for any real world feedback from people who know both worlds.
