Xbox Series X controller since several weeks frequently not recognized by any game

Since a couple of weeks I noticed that while my Series X controller is working flawlessly in MacOS as well as the GeForce Now app, it becomes completely unresponsive when launching a game (read: the controller isn’t recognized by games). This happens in ALL games, even the ones which I was playing with controller before.
