Do men flirt with women they’re attracted to? How do men act around girls they like?

There’s someone I see frequently who is kind of flirty and really nice, and I’ve liked him for a while. I’m scared to ask him out because I don’t know if I’m misinterpreting the signals. I usually hear that guys actually shy or awkward around girls they actually like, but he’s almost always calm and every time we see each other he makes flirty comments.
