Severe condensation and mould in a windowless bathroom (rented lower ground flat)
Hi everyone, I’m struggling with condensation and mould in my rented lower ground floor flat and wanted to share my situation. My bathroom has no windows and is located in the middle of the flat. It only has a small extractor fan near the door. The bathroom is about 2.88m x 1.45m, fully enclosed. Whenever the shower is used (even briefly, with a small amount of hot water), the room steams up almost instantly, and condensation forms everywhere (walls, mirror, ceiling, and even puddles on the floor). I have two moisture absorber tubs at either end of the bathroom. I also occasionally run the towel rail, but because it’s connected to the central heating, it’s not on all the time. There’s no electrical socket in the bathroom except for a razor, so I can’t plug anything else in. I sometimes move a bedroom fan in front of the bathroom door to help create airflow, but ideally I don’t want to have to do that all the time if I can avoid it, I’d like a more permanent way to manage the moisture. As a result of the condensation, mould has developed on the ceiling (both black and red mould), on the adhesive strips holding up the shower caddy, and even on loofahs and exfoliating gloves hanging from it. We’ve been spraying the mould to remove it, but it keeps returning. Even with the extractor running and the bathroom door sometimes open after showers, the problem persists. I’m just curious if anyone has faced something similar and found anything that actually works long-term for this kind of setup in a rented, windowless bathroom.
