Staying in homes

So I've done a lot of reading online while bored and I've read stories where some guys have rented people's homes sometimes in Thailand for their trip because it's WAY cheaper than hotels. So in their stories they said a person would still be there and you'd be renting a guest room or guest house for the time being and don't have reported in their stories that after getting to know the host a little more they've gotten lucky with them or their sister or more within that house. Does anyone on here have that experience happen to them or know if anyone who has? I feel like that's a pretty cool unique introduction to Thailand
