My boyfriend can't stand rom coms or reality TV

Basically it's not the end of the world and I get detesting reality TV but on occasion I like to shut my brain off and he can be quite judgy of reality TV. It's not the only thing I watch but I have my moments and find comfort in some classic rom coms like Legally Blonde, 13 going on 30 and Miss Congeniality. I thought relationships were about compromise but he tried to give me a "once a month" allotment to let us choose what we want to watch if it's a rom com. To me once a month is not really a compromise and it won't be the end of the world if he watches trash TV every now and then. A part of it is learning not to take it so seriously. That's the point. Would this bother anyone else and how can you deal with it? He did watch the Twilight series with me because we were on a Robert Pattinson binge and he just acted like it was the absolute death of him to watch the Twilight series.
