How I keep up a 70km/week running habit (and my sanity) thanks to one simple tool.

Hey r/running crew! I wanted to share a little bit about what keeps me going, especially as I ramp up my training cycles.

I'm a self-admitted mileage addict—I aim for 60-80km a week, 6 days running. For me, running isn't just physical; it's my moving meditation. I actually never use headphones. It's my time to train my mind, find that flow state, and just be. Honestly, I'll run in any weather. Rain, blistering sun, whatever. Consistency is the name of the game for marathon training, right?

But keeping that kind of volume consistent, while also managing strength and recovery, is the real beast. You can’t just run that much and skip the supporting work without getting hurt.

The Consistency Secret: It’s Not Just Miles, It’s the Stack

As I have to deal with "real-life" like work, family, friends, study, etc., using the Wellhub platform is the only way I can manage the "extra" stuff without it feeling like a second job. It's the simple connector that takes the friction out of my highly disciplined routine.

Here’s my weekly consistency stack:

  • The Run (and Data): My Garmin tracks everything, and I use Strava via Wellhub to keep my running community updated. The competitive side helps me push through that final long run!
  • Injury Prevention (The Non-Negotiables): I hit a local Pilates studio twice a week through Wellhub. Those deep core sessions are vital for keeping my form tight when I’m running on tired legs and for managing my chronic tight hips. I also use a local gym for heavy weightlifting a couple of times a week.
  • The Mental Side: Post-run or before bed, I always use Headspace for a quick 10-15 minute session. It’s the perfect cool-down for my mind after a mentally intense run. It helps me transition out of that flow state and focus on work or life stuff.
  • Fueling (The IF Life): I practice 20/4 Intermittent Fasting. While it’s a lifestyle, hitting those high-mileage weeks while fasting means I have to be surgically precise with my fuel window. I use MyFitnessPal and occasionally Nutrium (both available through Wellhub) to make sure I’m hitting my macro targets to sustain that volume and recovery.

The ability to seamlessly jump from a Trainiac strength session to a Pilates class, and then quickly use Headspace for recovery, without juggling multiple subscriptions or apps, is the actual hack that turns a high-volume routine from an exhausting chore into a sustainable lifestyle. It makes all the supporting work as easy as lacing up my shoes.

The Real Power: Mental Toughness

The physical gains are obvious, but what is the biggest benefit of this consistency? Mental clarity. Running without headphones, pushing through a sudden downpour, and then hitting a Headspace session to ground myself—that entire rhythm is how I build the mental toughness required for 42.2km.

What’s the one thing that helps you stay consistent in your running routine? Is it a piece of gear, a recovery tool, or a mental trick? Let me know!
