Questions about wheel size changes on my FR-S (ride quality + performance differences)

Hey everyone, I’ve got a 2013 FR-S in Illinois and I’m trying to figure out how much difference wheel size actually makes in the real world.

I’ve been debating going from the stock 17s to 18s, but I daily my car and the roads here aren’t the best. I’m looking for honest opinions from people who’ve made the switch.

My questions: How much harsher is the ride when going from 17” to 18”? Does the car actually feel slower with larger wheels? How does handling change? Sharper? Heavier? Does wider tire width make up for the performance loss? Are lightweight 18s worth it, or is it better to stay with 17s? Any recommended wheel/tire setups for daily driving + spirited runs?

I’m trying to understand how big the differences really are ride comfort, acceleration, cornering, etc.
