Cannot send to the US?

I just went to the post office to have a packaged delivered to NJ for my parents. It’s a gift with some chocolates and other small items.

I told the lady I would like to send the box to the U.S and she automatically dismissed me and told me we are not shipping anywhere in the US at the moment and she doesn’t know when it will be available again. She told me “bc of trump we have this new rule”. I don’t mind paying extra as it a gift for my parents but is this even true?

I send packages all the time the US and never even heard of such thing.

Is there another way I can send the package?
