Kids playing and why I’m happy but concerned

When I was a kid, we played in the yard, Infact we played everywhere. Which meant adults and strangers often corrected us. To highlight the extreme difference, we used to have women in dark, long Victorian dresses that would walk right up to use in front of our mother and spank our faces if we were nasty to our mother in public.

Times changed. As you maybe realized, I’m in USA and in an area where I haven’t seen any kids out in fifteen to twenty years.

But miracle, last two years kids came out. Only it’s not a miracle because nobody taught them to behave and it’s become a taboo to correct unknown children.

This has meant my neighborhood last summer had an incident down the lane where someone on a bike got hurt. The police got involved, everyone got upset. Lots of parents had tried on Facebook to tell these parents that their kids were not doing public safety.

So what happened - all twenty kids that had been out playing (a game we called Chicken in the past) were taken home. Which means we went back to zero kids outside playing.

Now down the lane the other way, we have a new set of kids playing. They are riding their skateboards on their stomachs as a group and leaving bicycles literally half in the street overnight.

Same protocol. Nobody knows what to say. They have forced several USPS and Amazon vans to turn their vans to wait for their gang to stop. The parents are young and do not look like the type wanting feedback. There have been a couple people complain about it on Facebook.
