My honest review of the Marc Brunet Art "School" in 2025
About 3 months ago, I came here to get some information on this course before purchasing. I read a few posts, considered my options and decided to go for it. Here are my honest thoughts:
CONTENT: Marc clearly knows his stuff, and he explains most topics really well. For anatomy, though, I found other, simpler methods clicked better for me. I appreciate the structured course plan—it’s clear and helps you stay on track—but beginners might find it too fast-paced and need to rewatch or do extra practice. The included brushes and D*scord/Forum access are... there. Some videos also drag a bit when the theory goes long, but the material overall feels like his older YT content—just slower and more detailed. I often used his YT clips or other tutorials as quick refreshers.
If you’re brand new to drawing, I wouldn’t recommend buying the full course right away. Try the free content or just the first few terms to gauge your interest. I dont think this class has actually been updated in years (I could be wrong), and some teachings contradict his newer YouTube videos. The site advertising “Art School 2025/2026” also feels REALLY misleading—it gives the impression of an active, instructor-led program, or "SCHOOL", when really it’s a set of pre-recorded lessons, 100% self-learning and a hands-off instructor. Clearer disclaimers are needed.
COMMUNITY: There’s a D*scord, but it’s mostly students sharing art and chatting and the vibe feels very..Reddit. The language used in official announcements are the kinds of things I'd see in a gaming or subreddit server. The only recurring event I've seen is the D*scord banner art contest, which always seems to favor higher-skill artists based on community votes — this to me is discouraging for beginners. I don't love the idea of hosting an art competition in a space where the idea is to improve and learn - but understand that it gives people a goal to strive for.
Study sessions happen occasionally that are organized by members, but again, there’s no critiques or interactions from Marc himself. Apparently, feedback used to be offered for a *$2,800 upgrade*, but that’s no longer available. Posting art in the D*scord or forums rarely guarantees responses, so they just feel like social platforms.
The “private community” label is misleading too, since anyone can join. Recently a stance about A/I also was announced, and it was ambiguous at best - no denouncing of A/I, only requesting that those who use it do not pass the work off as their own, and to not use others work to feed A/I without consent. This is disappointing, as this whole community is for learning art with your own two hands, utilizing modern tools responsibly. I don't love an A/I-user witch hunt in general, but for an "art school" community it just seemed a bit odd to allow it in any capacity. But that's just an opinion of mine that has little to do with the course itself, just something to consider if you are super against it.
VALUE: If you’re a beginner, stick to the first few terms or the trial. At $300, it mostly feels like paying for video access—especially since much of the info overlaps with his YT vids that are more up to date. The brushes are fine, nothing special. It’s cheaper than real art school, sure, but if you’re hoping for hands-on feedback or live interaction, you’ll be disappointed. Marc’s involvement ends at the pre-recorded videos and advertising.
OVERALL: Don’t buy the full course upfront—try a term, the trial, or just his free YT content first. The lack of feedback is a big downside. If that’s important to you, look for artists on Patreon who actually offer critiques. The D*scord isn’t truly private, and the $2800 “feedback upgrade” isn’t even available anymore (I believe there's a waitlist).
TL;DR: Great video quality and solid knowledge, but nothing you can’t find online for free. Community feels like social media with no guaranteed feedback on your work. I enjoy the structure of the course outline, and Marc is a wonderful artist with a ton of knowledge to share. But I feel I could get more out of joining a program or Patreon that offers feedback.
